Point checklist on every installation

20

Point checklist on every installation

  1. Return

    01

    Read the air going in

Filters, returns and the duct that feeds them. A starved return will make an eight year old system look finished when it is not.

  2. Coil

    02

Read the split across the coil

Supply against return. This is the number that separates a charge problem from a duct problem, and it is taken before anything is quoted.

  3. Duct

    03

Read what the ductwork is fighting

Todd holds certifications in air balancing, load calculations and duct design. Rooms that never cool are usually a design fault, not a capacity fault.

  4. Advice

    04

Then, and only then, the recommendation

Repair or replace, with the reasoning shown. Customers write about being talked out of a replacement more than anything else this company does.

“Instead of pushing us into a replacement, Todd gave us the confidence to extend the life of our existing unit and helped us get two more years out of it.” Colleen Valenta, Google

The balanced house

One house, read in the order the air reaches it.

Air leaves the handler, travels the trunk, splits into branches and arrives at a register. A room that will not hold temperature has a reason, and the reason sits somewhere on that path. This is the walk Todd does before he quotes.

Attic air handler with plenum, insulated flex duct runs and refrigerant lineset

Plenum

Where the air starts

The handler and the plenum it breathes into. Sealing here decides how much of the capacity you paid for ever leaves the equipment. In a Cypress attic that hits well past 130 degrees in August, a leaking plenum is cooling the roof.

Completed outdoor condenser installation on a level pad against brick at a Cypress home

Outside

The half you can see

The condenser, the pad it sits on and the line running back to the house. Set level, charged to the reading rather than to the gauge, and cleaned up after. Their crews get named for the cleanup as often as the work.

Supply

The part nobody photographs

Disconnect and surge protection at the unit. It is a small line on an invoice and it is the difference between a Gulf coast storm costing you a fuse or costing you a compressor.

Insulated flexible duct branches running across an attic to ceiling registers

Register

Where you actually feel it

The branch and the register in the room that never gets cold. Balancing is the certification Todd carries, and it is the step that turns a system that runs into a house that is comfortable.

The estimate is free because the measurement comes first.

Free estimates are one of the things Efficiency Experts lists under what you can expect. Nothing is priced until the system has been read, and if the honest answer is that your unit has life left in it, that is the answer you get.

Who turns up

A family company where the owner is still the one on the job.

Todd Fokken founded Efficiency Experts in 2006 after years as a top HVAC sales professional, and he decided the job was worth more than the sale. His wife Marcie runs the financial side and trains the office staff. Between them, that is who you are dealing with.

They first came out two years ago after we received an outrageous quote from another provider in the area. Instead of pushing us into a replacement, Todd gave us the confidence to extend the life of our existing unit and helped us get two more years out of it

This company and the owner, Todd, are very pleasant to work with. They are not only very knowledgeable but they go out of their way to make sure you understand everything about your HVAC replacement. Their replacement team is quick and they make sure they clean up after themselves.
